Bay Of Plenty District Health Board
Hawes Building Solutions Ltd was contacted directly by the Properties Manager at the Tauranga Hospital site. A request was made to provide a design and build proposal for the erection of safety access platforms to allow site operatives to safely carry out drainage maintenance as required.
The manholes were located on the side of a steep embankment and needed to have safe stair and ladder access to avoid the need for abseiling and other impractical and unsafe access methods.
A design and quote were provided and an instruction to proceed immediately was received from the Bay of Plenty District health Board.
Pile foundations were installed in the bank face and bearers were fixed in place. The platforms were manufactured off site and then craned into position. This minimised the risk of working at heights. Metal handrails with agreed access points were then fitted on completion of the building works.
The project was completed safely and on time.
