Dimensions Architects Ltd was the architect and project manager for this project and employed Hawes Building Solutions to complete the building contract. The scope of work included relocation of a large octagonal podium structure followed by construction of a new library and associated walkways.
The 4 tonne podium was carefully prepared for relocation by disconnecting the existing foundation and installing temporary propping and bracing. It was then lifted onto an accurately prepared new foundation using a mobile crane. Hawes Building Solutions' experience in the relocation of buildings was very beneficial during this process.
The new library, withdrawal room and resource room were of traditional timber framed construction with Hardies Axon Board cladding and colorsteel roofing. The interior was gib lined with composition board and had a suspended ceiling throughout. A new deck and roof were added to link the new library with the existing school walkways.
As the school was occupied during most of the works, Hawes Building Solutions paid particular attention to health & safety issues on the site. Perimeter fencing, site safety signage, hazard identification and other safety issues were monitored closely. Noise was kept to a minimum and was also programmed around specific school requirements.
The project was completed to a tight budget with Hawes Building Solutions assisting with value engineering and staging of the works in order to meet the school's strict budget requirements.
