Block H, Bay of Plenty Polytechnic
Independent Project Management Services Ltd was the project manager for this project and contracted Hawes Building Solutions Ltd on behalf of the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic to complete the building contract.
As the project needed to start immediately and the design process was incomplete, Hawes Building Solutions Ltd was selected based on its ability to meet tight programme requirements and provide a quality finished product. Work was undertaken on a cost plus basis.
The scope of work included interior and exterior demolition of an existing mechanics workshop building. The single open space was then converted into two modern classrooms with all new finishes and up to date technology to meet the polytechnic requirements.
The exterior involved a minor extension, adjustment of windows and some re-cladding work.
Interior work involved new timber framed partitioning, suspended ceilings and floor finishes.
Regular meetings were held where programme and design issues would be reviewed. Cost updates were provided in order to keep all parties informed with regard to the overall budget.
As the area around the building site was occupied by students and staff during most of the works, Hawes Building Solutions paid particular attention to health & safety issues on the site. Perimeter fencing, site safety signage, hazard identification and other safety issues were monitored closely. Noise was kept to a minimum and was also programmed around specific polytechnic requirements.
The project was completed on time with all costs and final accounts being agreed within days of completion.
